Accounting Manager OR Associate Director

Pre-IPO Biotech company in South San Francisco is seeking an Accounting Manager or Associate Director who is experienced with clinical trials in a Biotech Company. The Accounting Manager or Associate Director will perform and oversee all closing procedures related to clinical trials R&D activities and accounting operations. Additionally, the Accounting Manager or Associate Director will partner with surrounding departments and third-party vendors to monitor the status of key contracts and account for all costs associated with clinical, preclinical and manufacturing expenses. Ideal candidates will have a public accounting background, a CPA and 8+ years of Biotech/Pharmaceuticals accounting experience.

Overview

  • Implement and maintain complex Excel models to track clinical trial accruals and identification of ongoing improvement processes to support the company's accounting and reporting related to clinical trial and manufacturing expenses.
  • Review clinical trials and manufacturing contracts for accounting implications and prepare contract summaries for relevant accounting considerations.
  • Work closely with clinical business operations to ensure that contract amendments and change orders are appropriately captured in the clinical trial models and accounting records.
  • Act as the primary liaison with clinical business operations and subject matter expert in all accounting aspects of clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with business partners in FP&A and Accounts Payable to ensure that purchase orders and invoices are assigned to the appropriate departments and projects.
  • Routine collaboration with the Finance team members to ensure that forecasts and budgets accurately reflect the financial aspects of clinical trials.
  • Prepare accurate journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives and special projects as needed.
  • Develop reports for financial statement analysis of clinical trial accruals, prepaids, and expenses.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with clinical business operations, clinical project managers, and others within the organization.
  • Support and implement SOX control procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Active CPA license is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience. A combination of public accounting and biotechnology/ pharma industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Hands on experience managing complex Excel-based clinical trial accounting
  • Advanced excel skills required.
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information from data from multiple sources.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to efficiently provide high quality work.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to successfully meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be proactive and possess the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adapt and work in a quickly changing environment, managing competing demands.
  • Strong contributor in a team environment, with the ability to balance team and individual viewpoints and responsibilities.
