The Role

Production Associates participate in the development and application of Company Production System for the construction and assembly of Company vehicles, components, superchargers, and other products. Production Associates are also responsible for participating in the regularly scheduled cleaning and maintenance of the production equipment, including but not limited to equipment used in the Paint department. The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in hands-on assembly and the application of production systems in any type of manufacturing environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Company and outside. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success.

The successful candidate takes pride in their hands-on capabilities, sense of urgency, and attention to detail, and appreciates an environment where superior work is encouraged, noticed, and rewarded. Production Associates must be able to perform a wide array of essential functions across a number of production and manufacturing lines and work areas, as business needs require. Production Associates may be assigned to various functional areas.

Job Responsibilities for all Production Associates regardless of assignment include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing a standardized work process and following defined work instructions and sequences at a defined pace, repetitively for an extended period of time, and rotating as required
  • Evaluating processes and equipment to look for continuous improvement opportunities, and suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve quality, safety, cost, or support the production work environment
  • Escalating functional and process failures to the appropriate support groups and leaders
  • Collaborating with colleagues, including but limited to production and engineering groups
  • Developing and following non-verbal communication (visual management: signs, workplace organization, and pictures)
  • Understanding and adhering to required procedures, policies, and processes
  • Quickly adjusting to immediate process changes due to process/shop improvement
  • Quickly communicating any health and/or safety concerns to the appropriate support groups and leaders
  • Maintaining a safe and collaborative working environment
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
  • Understanding and using manifest codes and work instructions
  • Following established protocols for handling hazardous materials
  • Using tools and equipment that may produce vibration during use
  • Must be reliable, have good initiative, committed, and quality focused
  • Punctuality and a professional, can-do attitude are a must
Additional Job Responsibilities for Production Associates assigned to support Assembly include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely use Company Production System for the construction and assembly of Tesla products
  • Using complex tooling that requires specialized training
Additional Job Responsibilities for Production Associates assigned to support Equipment Maintenance include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely use Tesla's maintenance system to perform regularly scheduled cleaning and maintenance of production equipment
  • Using specialized industrial cleaning equipment that requires specialized training
Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands applicable to all:

  • Ability to perform physical work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours per day
  • Possible weekend work and overtime required (including potential overnight shifts)
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively bend, lift and reach to move and install parts of varying size and weight overhead
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Ability to stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for periods of time
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively lift items up to 55 lbs.
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively push and pull items up to 105 lbs.
  • Ability to safely, effectively and reliably receive and give urgent emergency and other essential communications in a fast paced factory environment
  • Ability to detect abnormalities in the process and receive safety signals using visual, tactile, or auditory senses
  • Production Associates assigned to support Equipment Maintenance must have the ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • For Production Associates assigned to support Equipment Maintenance, potential exposure to confined spaces and hazardous materials used in the painting process
Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous hands-on experience in assembly, the application of a production system, and/or cleaning of industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or evidence of exceptional ability
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
