Director of Human Resources

East Bay, CA

Role: The Human Resources Director will be an active member and HR Business Partner to the VP Operations. The HR Director will manage and direct people development, organization strategy, change management, wage and hour compliance, safety reporting, employee relations activities and administer human resources services, programs, and processes.

Main Activities:

Organization: Team Leader competency model

Main Interface: Internal - employees at all levels within the main manufacturing plant location, Human Resources Generalists at COMPANY

• External - Legal counsel, benefits vendors and related.

Budget: Develops and/or contributes to departmental or functional budget, manages expenses to budget during the fiscal year.

Main Job Duties:

Business Partner

* Manage the HR Generalist team and lead their development efforts

* Business Partner to the VP Operations at COMPANY and the senior team

* Builds relationships with senior team

* Consults with leaders to develop and execute business strategy to build organizational capabilities, behaviors, structures and process

* As a trusted advisor and strategic partner, consults on strategies to address chronic challenges and emerging opportunities

* Apply expertise across all HR disciplines like: career development, performance management, coaching, total rewards, employee relations, labor relations, learning and development, succession planning, recognition programs, and strategic team development

* Align innovative HR programs with business needs - effectively partnering with PARENT COMPANY HR Team Services to deliver organizational and tailored programs, processes and solutions

* Coach managers and consult on both team effectiveness and employee & leader development.

* Drive employee engagement, culture and strong leadership practices as an impactful and effective HR Business Partner to COMPANY staff

* Provide thought leadership on organizational and people-related strategy and execution, backed by insightful data to guide decision-making and provide proactive solutions.

* Demonstrate accountability by approaching problems systematically, leverage metrics to measure success and continuously improve

Employee Relations

* Manage and administer programs, policies and procedures for salaried and hourly workforce.

Workers Compensation

* Investigate, report, and manage Workers Compensation claims and determine corrective action; take action to minimize Workers Compensation costs. Accurately maintain the Company's safety records and OSHA log.


* Take a leadership role on the Company's Safety Committee; review procedures and make recommendations to ensure a safe working environment.


* Recruit internal and external candidates to fill staffing requests.

* Coordinates the orientation of new and reassigned salaried associates

* Conducts and/or organizes company training programs for both hourly and salaried associates for skill enhancement, career development, etc.

* Develop and execute comprehensive Succession Planning program for the organization

Compensation and Benefits

* Coordinate the enrollment and delivery of compensation and employee benefits programs

Wage and Hour

* Oversee all areas of Human Resources related to wage and hour compliance to assure that all federal, state, and local regulations are complied with.


* Ensures the documentation and maintenance of all salary/hourly employment personnel, safety and workers compensation records.

* Contribute to other projects as necessary to support PARENT COMPANY and Lighting sector Human Resources goals and initiatives.



Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field, Master's degree preferred.

8-10 years' experience in Human Resources Management role with a minimum 3 years significant hourly employee support experience in a role in a manufacturing environment preferred
